BALI DANCE, a wonderful heritage

The Kecak Dance is one of Bali’s most iconic performances, often called the “Monkey Chant Dance.” It tells the story of Prince Rama from the Ramayana epic. Rama’s wife, Sita, is kidnapped by the evil king Ravana. With the help of the monkey army led by Hanuman, Rama fights bravely to rescue her.

What makes Kecak unique is the chorus of men sitting in a circle, chanting “cak-cak-cak” rhythmically, creating a powerful atmosphere without musical instruments. Their voices become the heartbeat of the story, guiding the audience through scenes of love, struggle, and triumph.

In November 2024, students of 8th grade SMP Negeri 4 Sleman went there for 'Studi Literasi Budaya'. They visited many historical tourism places, and one of them was Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK). it is place for seeing the Kecak dance in the noon. From that experience, they learned several things. The Kecak Dance is more than just art—it carries deep moral lessons:

  • Loyalty and Devotion: Rama’s determination to save Sita shows the importance of love and responsibility.

  • Courage Against Evil: The battle with Ravana symbolizes the fight between good and evil, reminding us to stand firm against injustice.

  • Unity and Cooperation: The monkey army’s teamwork highlights how collective effort can overcome great challenges.

  • Spiritual Balance: The chanting circle reflects harmony, teaching us that life requires rhythm, balance, and togetherness.
